Do
I Need To Go To The Doctor Every Time I Have A Yeast
Infection?
__________________________________________________________________
Most
women choose to treat their own yeast infections.
Because Candida infections are so common, women are
familiar enough with their own bodies to be comfortable
in handling the infection alone. While there is nothing
wrong with treating a yeast infection yourself, you need
to be cautious.
If
you have not had a yeast infection before, you need to
see your doctor to confirm that your infection is what
you think it is. The doctor will conduct a simple test
to confirm the presence on the Candida bacteria. Once
this has been done, you will usually be prescribed and
anti-fungal cream of some type with which to treat the
infection.
If
this is not your first yeast infection, you need to take
some time to make sure that your infection really is a
yeast infection. It is not uncommon for people to
confuse yeast infections with bacterial vaginosis or
even trichomoniasis. The symptoms of these three
conditions are not dissimilar, but the causes and
treatments are very different.
If
you have tried to treat your yeast infection and you
have found that it is stuborn and difficult to clear,
you need to consider if you are perhaps suffering from
one of these other conditions. If you subscribe to our
yeast newsletter, you will
find more information on how to distinguish between
these conditions.
Once
you are clear that you have a yeast infection, you have
a clear choice. You can use over the counter (OTC)
drugs, or you can use natural methods to treat yourself.
Our view on this site is the drugs are very useful for
serious conditions, but for conditions like yeast which
are uncomfortable but not life-threatening, natural
methods are preferred. They don't have any harmful side
effects, and they work with the body's natural healing
mechanisms to eliminate and cure the problem.
